Looking for a good biography? Look no further then DYNAMIC WOMEN DANCERS. Ms. Dublin takes a common world activity and provides young readers with a look inside the lives of women that have made dance what it is today. DYNAMIC WOMEN DANCERS doesn’t focus on just one style of dance. The reader will be exposed to classical ballet, modern dance, Flamenco, and even (to Americans) obscure Bharatanatyam. With a glossary to explain some of the dance terms, readers will be fascinated by the lives and influences of these amazing women. Some of the women profiled have long since died, but many are still alive and actively dancing and contributing to the world of dance. Even those not interested in ballet will surely have heard of the famous dancer Anna Pavlova. Her grace and style brought ballet the attention it deserved. Jawole Willa Jo Zollar made girls and women everywhere aware that you can still dance even if your body wasn’t designed for ballet. She found a style of dance that suited her unique personality and created a dance troop that celebrates the beauty of each unique body and build. Geeta Chandran did not originally want to be a dancer of the traditional style of Bharatanatyam. But she has excelled at the dance and has brought the beauty of the ancient style to life and keeps it alive in modern times. These and other amazing women are showcased in DYNAMIC WOMEN DANCERS. A quick read with short chapters on each of the women make it easy for younger readers to grasp. The information in the book is a wonderful stepping stone to further exploration of one or all of these women that have contributed so much to the world of dance as we see it today. |
