Interview with Heather Renee Holden
First off, thanks so much for joining us for an up-close and personal interview for TeensReadToo.com! My
name is Jen, and I'll be your server toda...oh, wait, wrong job! Anyway, thanks so much for taking time out
of your writing schedule--which I'm sure is busy!--and answering a few questions for your readers and
fans.

Let's get some of the typical interview questions out of the way first. When did you first know that you
wanted to be a writer?

It was when I was in middle school that I truly became inspired to write. Back then it had been only for fun,
though, and it wasn't until around the end of eighth grade that I realized writing was what I wanted to do
for a career. I've been a writing addict ever since.

Can you tell us a little bit about your road to publishing?

After a lot of thought and research, I decided to self-publish my first book, Twilight's Edge, through
Lulu.com. This book took me nearly three years to complete, which includes the writing, editing, and
formatting of the book for self-publication.

Tell us a little bit about either your latest or upcoming release. If you could only tell your readers one thing
about the story that had to convince us to buy the book, what would it be?

My first book, Twilight's Edge, is about a diabetic high school student who learns that she is a vampire
huntress. A diabetic gets to kick some undead butt--now who wouldn't love that?

What, or who, has been the greatest inspiration for your stories?

Real life, basically. Anything I see, hear about, or experience in my everyday life could very well be used
in one of my books. Diabetes, for example, inspired my
Twilight's Edge series, so had I never been
diagnosed with it, the series probably wouldn't exist today.

Let's hear about your family, who I'm sure are thrilled to have a published author among them!

They have all been very supportive and enthusiastic. Not once did they doubt me as I worked to become
published. I am grateful to have them in my life.

Now for some fun facts. What's your greatest comfort food?

Chocolate chip cookies. One is just never enough.

What are the first three things you do when you wake up in the morning?

Check my blood sugar, eat breakfast, and then brush my teeth. Exciting, huh?

If I came to your house and looked in your closet/attic/basement, what's the one thing that would surprise
me the most?

My closet is a bottomless pit. I don't even know what I'll find in there sometimes.

Everyone asks the question about "if you could be a tree, which tree would you be?" so I want to know: If
you could be a color, which color would it be, and why?

Gray. It is such a calming color for me. I'm also a strong believer that nothing in the world is "black or
white," so gray is very fitting for me.

Who is your favorite cartoon character? Which cartoon character is most like you?

I don't know if I'm like any cartoon characters, but my favorite is definitely Cheryl Blossom, from the Archie
comics.

If you could beam yourself to anywhere in the world ("Beam me up, Scotty!"), during any time in history,
where and when would it be--and why?

I'd want to go to a more recent time since I have diabetes to worry about, so the 1980s would be fun.
There's a lot of cool music from that era, and it would be interesting to see my older sister when she was
still a baby.

So what's your favorite type of music to listen to? Favorite musical artists? Do you listen to music while
you're writing?

Listening to music as I write is a necessity. What that music happens to be, however, varies. I often times
listen to music from the alternative rock genre, though.

Do you have any favorite T.V. shows? Movies you watch over and over again? What was the last movie
you saw at the theater?

Veronica Mars is definitely my all-time favorite TV show, although Heroes is quickly growing as one of my
favorites. Pulse was the last movie I saw in theaters.

You have the chance to give one piece of advice to your teen readers. What would it be?

Never doubt yourself. Do what you love and never give up, even if it does become despairing at times. If
you don't believe in yourself, no one else will, either.

One last question. What stories can we look forward to from you in the future?

The second book in my Twilight's Edge series, Within the Shadows, is the next in line to be released. You
can learn more about it by going to my website:
www.edgyauthor.com. There are others in this series that
I'm currently working on, as well as countless other books that are still in the in-progress stage.
