Interview with Bruce Zick
First off, thanks so much for joining us for an up-close and personal interview for TeensReadToo.com!
My name is Jen, and I'll be your server toda...oh, wait, wrong job! Anyway, thanks so much for taking time
out of your writing schedule--which I'm sure is busy!--and answering a few questions for your readers and
fans.

Let's get some of the typical interview questions out of the way first. When did you first know that you
wanted to be a writer?

I loved telling stories ever since grade school. My book reports were mini productions full of drama and
exciting storytelling.

Can you tell us a little bit about your road to publishing?

I got involved in comic books back in the early nineties. Since I had earlier created many original
properties, I submitted several of them to different book publishers and had two series picked up that
went into production.

Tell us a little bit about either your latest or upcoming release. If you could only tell your readers one
thing about the story that had to convince us to buy the book, what would it be?

What would it be like to become a mummy wrapped in magical bandages that give you powers to fight the
undead????  (
THE ANUBIS TAPESTRY: BETWEEN TWILIGHTS)

What, or who, has been the greatest inspiration for your stories?

It's a combination of a love for old movies and old comic books that create a sense of wonder that
transports you out of your world. People like Ray Harryhausen, Merian C. Cooper, Stan Lee and Jack
Kirby, Frank Miller--the list is unlimited.

Let's hear about your family, who I'm sure are thrilled to have a published author among them!

Oh yeah. My family is all heated up about this book project with Actionopolis. My wife really digs it, too.
They were following it from its inception and kept saying "I can't wait to see the final book." Then one day
you're holding it in your hands and people are just thrilled about it. It's a great support system.

Now for some fun facts. What's your greatest comfort food?

A bowl of cereal.

What are the first three things you do when you wake up in the morning?

Moan, whimper, and growl. After that I usually slip into the hot tub, then check CNN for world news, and
then go through the laborious task of trying to wake up my body and mind.

If I came to your house and looked in your closet/attic/basement, what's the one thing that would surprise
me the most?

I've got a ton of junk!

Everyone asks the question about "if you could be a tree, which tree would you be?" so I want to know: If
you could be a color, which color would it be, and why?

Blue. Maybe cause I'm a night person. Maybe it's a mysterious, deep color. Don't really know why.

Who is your favorite cartoon character? Which cartoon character is most like you?

Daffy Duck. I'd say that Droopy Dog is most like me. Slow moving, slow talking, unassuming, but full of
surprises.

If you could beam yourself to anywhere in the world ("Beam me up, Scotty!), during any time in history,
where and when would it be--and why?

I've always loved Greek Mythology and the whole ideal of Greek civilization, including the devotion to
athletics and philosophy. I'd like to see what it was really like, and whether it lives up to my expectations.

So what's your favorite type of music to listen to? Favorite musical artists? Do you listen to music while
you're writing?

I love old jazz, plus film music. Bernard Herrman and Jerry Goldsmith are the gods of film soundtracks. I
always try to find the right music to fit the project, so it could be anything from classical to big band swing.
It just depends.

Do you have any favorite T.V. shows? Movies you watch over and over again? What was the last movie
you saw at the theater?

Loved the old Man From Uncle and Wild Wild West shows. Hate to admit it, but I am a bit of a Trekkie. I
really admire their ability to create lasting characters and timeless tales. I watch a library of old movies
over and over again, literally everything from the last sixty years. The last movie I saw was the Sunshine
Girl, and it was just so so.

You have the chance to give one piece of advice to your teen readers. What would it be?

Be a student of history and study the classics in literature and film.

One last question. What stories can we look forward to from you in the future?

There will be further adventures of The Anubis Tapestry from the good folks at Actionopolis. Check out
www.actionopolis.com for updates. Also, I'm working on a graphic novel with DarkHorse that is going to be
awesome.
