I have loved to read and write all my life. After majoring in English in college, I spent a number of years as a copywriter for a direct mail marketing company. I wrote direct mail fundraising letters for nonprofit organizations (if you got a letter in the mail asking for a donation to Toys for Tots, I probably wrote it). That was an interesting job, but I decided to go back to school because I missed studying literature. I am now a PhD candidate in English and I am preparing to write my dissertation on an aspect of children’s literature. It is definitely my favorite area. I am so excited to have found this path, especially because the people involved in the children’s literature community are so wonderful. I also teach literature and composition to college freshmen. In my spare time, I read for fun (nonfiction, contemporary fiction, classics, magazines, you name it), cross stitch (Christmas stockings are my favorite), and run. A lot.
