THE SNEAKIEST PIRATES may not be the fanciest children’s book out there. But forget that for the moment. Focus on the fact that the author of the book is a mere seven years old. That’s right, Dalton James is a child! Now pick up THE SNEAKIEST PIRATES again and be impressed.
Told with simple language and Dalton’s childish drawings, the story is fun and to the point. Pirate Pete (the narrator of the story) and his dad, Scurvy James, happen across Peg Leg Chuck burying his stolen treasure. While Peg Leg is busy burying his gold, Pete and James steal everything off Peg Leg’s ship, and then return to the shore and steal the treasure, as well.
Trying to escape from the King’s ships, Peg Leg never realizes that everything has been stolen. Instead, Pete and James have a duel between themselves for the treasure. But when they both become too tired from fighting, they decide to share the treasure. They take everything back to their boat and sail home.
As they reach home, the readers discover that this was all in Pete’s imagination. For Pete then shares with the reader that he and James will be rock stars tomorrow.
Whimsical and silly, THE SNEAKIEST PIRATES will amuse the young and the young-at-heart alike.
