Ever since Lori Stanton’s mother was elected to the school board, she knew that politics was what interested her the
most. And with the upcoming eight-grade elections, it was the perfect time to show all of her peers, and herself, that she
would be able to run for the position of treasurer -- and win. Lori had it all planned out, going over the details with her
parents and choosing her best friend, Marcia, to be her campaign manager.
But then everything changed when Lori’s longtime crush, and the most popular guy in school, David Cruise, asked her to
be his campaign manager for the presidential position. It was a tough decision to make since Lori was so devoted
towards her own campaign. But how could she give up the one-way ticket to all the coolest parties and to finally being
part of the cool crowd?
At first, helping David win seemed like a cinch since he had won the previous election. That is until David Cameron, or
Cap, the guy that everyone seems to like (definitely for his weirdness) also decides to run for president. Before they
know it, Cap becomes some stiff competition, what with his very unique campaigning skills. The race seemed fair so far,
but when information is leaked that Cap is somehow acquainted with the wolfman, a man with a very scary wolf by his
side, this eighth-grade election just may take a turn toward the dirty side.
D.M. Nigro gives a very interesting twist to a student body election, and the end results are not only satisfying but also
very touching. Before you know it, everyone will be falling head over heels and care deeply for Cap and Lori. THE
WOLFMAN, THE SHRINK AND THE EIGHTH-GRADE ELECTION is a short and fast-paced book that I will
never forget.
