It’s been a full year since James Miller had his adventure at Camp Runamucker. Now twelve and living in Louisiana
with his family, he and his best friend, Corey, are looking forward to a fun-filled summer, free of responsibility. They
start off by tricking classmate Jed into playing a phony spy game, and leave him to hide while they run off in search of
drinks and a cool place to escape the heat. While they cross the front stoop of Stan’s Corner Store, James spots an
uninteresting baseball card lying on the ground, and slips it into his pocket.

After they and Jed have a run-in or two with a man who has a tattoo of an “L” on his hand, it becomes clear that
something strange is going on in their town. Jed has found a blank, plastic card with a hologram in the corner similar
to the one on the card James found, and the mysterious man seems desperate to get it back…even to the point of
    murder.

It’s up to James, Corey, and Jed to unravel the clues and discover the secrets of the cards.

I enjoyed this second book in the JAMES THE ADVENTURE series far more than the first book, DIAMOND IN
THE ROUGH. With a tighter storyline and a more exciting plot, it’s perfect for a younger reader who likes a good
mystery. Although the two books are part of a series, the events are unrelated enough so that the second book can
be well understood without having read the first.
